Russell A. Phipps recognized on 100th Birthday

"On December 28th, 2021 the Town of Hopkinton honored Russell A. Phipps with a public safety parade. Hopkinton Resident and World War II veteran Russell A. Phipps was recognized for his 100th birthday with a drive by parade at his home on Winter Street, Hopkinton by the Hopkinton Police, Fire and Department of Public Works at 10am. Phipps has lived in Hopkinton since 1949 and still spends time working the saw mill on his property.

Phipps was a Sergeant in the Army Air Corp from 1942 until 1945. After training he was sent to the Pacific Ocean Island of Tinian. There he worked on the Enola Gay, the plane that would drop one of the atomic bombs on Japan which lead to the end of World War II.

Hopkinton Veterans Committee Chairperson Michael Whalen presented Mr. Phipps with a hand carved cane with a pewter eagle on it. Congratulations to Mr. Phipps on his 100th birthday."
