Boy Scout Christmas Tree Sale Starts this Weekend

Hopkinton Boy Scout Troup 1 is selling fresh cut Christmas trees again this year. The tree lot behind Colella's Supermarket opens the day after Thanksgiving, Friday, November 26th at noon. The trees are traditional and fragrant select Balsam Fir and the dark greeen, sturdy-branched Fraser Fir.

The scouts will be selling trees until they are gone. Hours are listed below:

Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4PM to 8PM
Fridays from 4PM to 9PM
Saturdays from 8AM to 9PM
Sundays from 8:30AM to 6PM

Selectmen Set Budget Guidelines for FY2012

The Board of Selectmen, in consultation with Town Manager Norman Khumalo, agreed on budget guidelines for FY2012 after a lengthy discussion at their November 9th meeting. The message for FY2012 is clear; 1) level funded operational expenses at FY2011 dollars, 2) additional increases in fixed costs to be funded through the tax levy subject to the maximum levy not to exceed Prop 2.5 plus the excess levy capacity of approximately $900,000 over a two year period.

Snappy Dogs Closes for Winter

The Snappy Dogs hot dog stand, located in the parking lot of Colella's Supermarket will be closing for the winter. Saturday, November 20th will be the last day for hot dog lovers to get their fill. Owners Lisa Volpe Hachey and Teresa Boyce say they are thankful for all their loyal customers and look forward to their return again in April when they will re-open for the season.

Hopkinton Needs Sidewalk Plan

Chairman Joe Markey began the Planning Board’s discussion of sidewalks at their November 9th meeting by saying that Hopkinton doesn’t have a sidewalk plan, but that now would be an opportune time for the Planning Board to begin work on documenting priorities and preparing a plan. Although not directly responsible for sidewalk maintenance, the board frequently encounters sidewalk issues when reviewing and approving site plans.

One of the goals set by the Planning Board in July was to work with the Department of Public Works (DPW) to develop a comprehensive sidewalk plan.

Planning Begins for 2011 MLK Day of Giving Back

Don’t miss the opportunity to take part in what has quickly become a tradition in Hopkinton. Mark your calendars now for Hopkinton’s Fourth Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Giving Back on Monday, January 17. In 2008, 400 Hopkinton students, families and friends participated in this community wide day of giving back. In 2009, the number grew to over 700 participants, and organizers are hoping to top that number for 2011.

Hopkinton's Library Site Now at Current Location

There has been in change in the site selection for the proposed new library. According to Permanent Building Committee (PBC) Chairman John Ferrari, work on the schematic plans for the site behind Center School has been halted, and all remaining funds will be put towards schematic plans for a new library at the current location.

Highway Department Winter Parking Ban

The DPW wishes to remind all Hopkinton residents of By-Laws pertaining to the parking of motor vehicles during the winter months.

Traffic Rules and Orders, Town of Hopkinton, Article lV, Section 8 “It shall be unlawful for the driver of any vehicle, other than for an emergency, to park said vehicle on any street between the hours of 1:00am to 6:00am from November 15 through April 1.
