Video: Blue Ribbons of Support for Law Enforcement Placed in Hopkinton

Over 400 wives of Massachusetts State police officers are participating in a campaign to cover the state with blue ribbons. The ribbons are being placed on trees and poles throughout the state to show support for law enforcement and their families. Molly Hanchett and Becky Canty were welcomed to bring the program into town and received help from the Hopkinton Police Department in placing the ribbons around town.

Sandy Beach Closed Again due to Unsafe Bacteria Levels

For the 2nd time this summer, the Hopkinton Parks & Recreation Commission issued a message through twitter stating that swimming at Sandy Beach has been closed until further notice. They stated high levels of bacteria in the water is the reason. The tweet stated; "Swimming at Sandy Beach prohibited until further notice. Recent storms have created unsafe levels of bacteria."

September's Fatima Day at the Shrine in Holliston

On Tuesday, September 13th, the Xaverian Missionaries will hold the traditional Fatima Day celebration in honor of Our Lady. It is going to be our fifth Fatima Day of 2016. This year’s theme is connected to the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy - Mary Mother of Mercy. The evening begins with a sing-along at 6:30 PM and Mass at 7:00 PM. At 8:00 PM, there will be a Rosary and Candlelight procession followed by refreshments served in the Shrine’s Hall. The main celebrant and homilist will be Fr. Francis Signorelli, sx. Fr. Francis served for many years in the Amazon region of Northern Brazil.

Wives of Massachusetts State Police Officers are hanging blue ribbons across the state to show support for law enforcement and their families. Two MSP wives, Molly Hanchett and Becky Canty teamed up with the Hopkinton Police Department to cover Hopkinton in blue. Be on the lookout for blue ribbons throughout town. Below is a group shot with the many Police Officers, Fire Fighters and community members in attendance.

Zoning Advisory Committee Vacancies

The Planning Board is seeking residents interested in serving on the Zoning Advisory Committee. The Board is looking for residents who will be energized and committed to addressing various zoning related topics in depth, and committed to attending regular evening meetings generally from September through February. The Planning Board is looking forward to appointing a vital, creative and energetic Committee. The work program for the Committee will be developed following a Public Forum in the fall of 2016. Terms are for one year, and no prior experience is necessary.

The 3rd annual Keep Smilin 4 Abbie foundation Field Hockey event took place Saturday August 6th, the event featured 2 Field Hockey games, The games took place to benefit the Keep Smilin 4 Abbie Foundation. The foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization began operations in January 2014 after Hopkinton student and Field Hockey player, Abbie Benford passed away due to an anaphylactic reaction. The Foundation hosts numerous events for funds to raise awareness of anaphylaxis and to fund research. The event featured 2 games and 4 teams.

Our next gathering will be September 11th beginning at 3:30 PM and concluding at 6:00 PM. The Eighth Presentation will be guided by Group of Refugees from Middle East - Massachusetts. The theme will be, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called Children of God”.

All are welcome. No charge and no reservations needed.
