Let School Counselors Help You

February 1-5 is National School Counseling Week. School counselors play an important role in student success.
In addition to helping students with course selection, counselors can:

~Help recognize students’ needs.
~Help students relate well to others.
~Help parents and teachers understand students.
~Talk with students about study skills, friendship, divorce and other important issues.
~Organize services with other school specialists.
~Make referrals to outside agencies.
~Help students with college and career planning.

Hopkinton Selectmen Change Operation Hours for Bars

At Tuesdays Selectmen meeting, the Board approved a change in the operation hours for bars. The new proposed standard hours are, Sun-Thu 11am to 11pm and Fri & Sat 11am to Midnight. The hours could be altered outside of the proposed times based on the Board of Selectmen discretion. The policy also includes prohibited sales until noon in accordance with Mass General Laws on; "Memorial Day and Christmas Day or the day following, when Christmas Day is a Sunday, unless the Town adopts; "M.G.L. c.138, §33B, which allows sale of alcohol between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m."

Hopkinton Public Library Foundation Chosen by Staples Associate to Receive $1,000 Grant

Hopkinton Public Library Foundation (HPLF) has been awarded $1,000 by Staples Foundation, the private charitable arm of Staples, Inc., under a program that lets Staples associates direct donations.

Hopkinton resident and Staples associate, Dianne Keohane, nominated HPLF for the grant.
“My family is contributing to the library expansion and renovation through 1000 Homes for Hopkinton Library. I am thankful that Staples is also contributing through 2 Million & Change to a cause that is such an integral part of our community,” she said.

Joanne Duffy, 85

Joanne Duffy, 85, of Hopkinton, passed away Monday, February 1, 2016. Born in Braintree, she was the daughter of the late Anne (Belmore) and George MacDonald. She was the wife of the late John Joseph Duffy.

Joanne enjoyed gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.
