Council on Aging Seeks Part-time Outreach Worker

Town of Hopkinton’s Council on Aging seeks a PT (25-30 hrs) Outreach Worker - The Part Time Outreach Worker will work collaboratively as a member of the COA Senior Center team, and is responsible for the technical and professional efforts of seeking and identifying elders within the Hopkinton community who are in need of services. The qualified candidate must have professional work experience not limited to gerontology, home care, public assistance, social services programs, and other related services.

Mark your calendars for the annual picnic at the New England Laborer’s Training Center, 37 East Street, sponsored by Rep. Carolyn Dykema for seniors in her district which includes seniors in Hopkinton, Holliston, Southborough and Westborough. This popular event will feature free hamburgers, hot dogs and all the fixings, as well as prizes and a chance to socialize in a festive setting. Transportation is available, but Hopkinton seniors must sign up at the Senior Center by Monday, August.19.

Work Begins on School and West Main Street Traffic Light on August 19

Work begins at the intersection of School and West Main streets on Monday, August 19 as the street light project, approved by Town Meeting in May, gets underway. According to DPW Director John Westerling, traffic impacts are expected to be minimal as most of the initial work is taking place along the shoulders of the road, except for a period of three to four days at the end of September when paving takes place. Work hours for the project are from 7AM to 4PM Monday through Friday and the targeted completion date for the project is October 21, 2013.

BOSTON – Friday, August 16, 2013 - Massachusetts this week mobilized Massachusetts resources to support fire control operations in other states. Through the Department of Conservation and Recreation’s (DCR) Bureau of Forest Fire Control and Forestry, 22 men and women have been dispatched to Alaska, Montana and West Virginia.

Spilka files bill to repeal sales tax on computer software design services

Today, Senator Karen Spilka announced her intention to file a bill to repeal the “tech tax.” The expansion of the sales tax to computer software design services became effective on July 31 and has since caused considerable confusion and concern throughout the digital industry sector in Massachusetts.
