HOPKINTON - Brian J Herr, Republican candidate for United States Senate, called on Congress to amend the Constitution and impose term limits on Members of Congress.

"We have real problems that must be addressed," said Brian Herr. "Unfortunately, the ideas coming from Washington - from both Democrats and Republicans - are the same tired policies that simply are not working. If we want new ideas in Washington, we must send new people."

Baypath Humane Society Fur Ball

The Baypath Humane Society of Hopkinton will host its 2nd Annual Fur Ball Saturday, March 1 at Acacia Indian Meadows, 275 Turnpike Road in Westborough at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $40 per person and $45 at the door. All proceeds will be used to assist the shelter animals.

The Fur Ball will feature live entertainment by the band Bob’s Your Uncle and an appearance by the Sports Hub’s Chachi Loprete.

Be A Hydrant Hero!

The Fire Department would like to remind our neighbors with fire hydrants on (or near) their property to please shovel the hydrants from the snow.

The DPW will try to clear as many as possible, but could certainly use the support from our neighbors! Shoveling of hydrants could save crucial time in responding to an emergency.

BAA Launches Marathon App.

The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.), organizer of the Boston Marathon, today launched Boston Marathon World Run, a mobile application and website that connects runners from around the world with the 2014 Boston Marathon. In response to receiving an unprecedented amount of inquiries from runners seeking to participate in the 2014 Boston Marathon, the B.A.A. created a virtual experience in which all runners, regardless of ability or geography, could run a distance of their choosing and participate in the athletic spirit of the event.

NSTAR Is Ready For Storm

NSTAR is closely monitoring the storm’s progress and we’re prepared to respond to any damage or outages as soon as it’s safe to do so. We will declare a Level 4 Emergency Response Plan (ERP) at 6 a.m. Wednesday, February 5.

As always, we strongly urge people to stay away from all down wires and to report them to us and local emergency officials. We encourage customers to call us at 1-800-592-2000 if their electric service is affected.

Robert Terrence Nealon Jr., 70

Robert Terrence Nealon Jr. (70) of Pocasset, Massachusetts died on Monday, February 3, 2014, a result of a sudden stroke. Known as “Terry” by friends and family and “Bob” by his many business colleagues, he was born in Brownwood, Texas on October 20, 1943 and grew up in Hopkinton MA, the son of the late Robert T. and Mary B. Nealon. He was a graduate of Marian High School (Framingham) and Boston College. He served proudly in the United States Army as a Captain and was awarded The Army Commendation Medal and The National Defense Service Medal.

Power Outages During Cold Weather

Wet snow, sleet and freezing rain can sometimes lead to ice and snow buildup on trees and power lines. This buildup either by itself or combined with strong winds can snap tree limbs, causing them to fall and bring down power lines disrupting electrical service.
