Friends Pledge $15,000 for the Renovation and Expansion of Hopkinton Public Library

Fundraising for the Library received yet another exciting boost from the Friends of the Hopkinton Public Library prior to the Library funding vote at the May 5 Town Meeting and the May 19 Town Election. The Friends have pledged to give $15,000 over the next three years to renovate and expand the Library, in addition to their $5,000 gift and naming of the Staff Room. With this generous pledge, the Friends have donated $20,000 to the renovation and expansion project.

Convert Short-term Memory Into Long-term Learning

With final exams coming up, your teen will have to recall a lot of information. Good recall is not simply a gift. It can be learned and improved through practice, and finding what works best for your teen.
The key to good recall is moving a piece of information from short-term memory (which lasts a few moments) to long-term memory (which lasts months or years).

Hopkinton Dems Meet May 15

The May meeting of the Hopkinton Democratic Town Committee will be on Thursday 5/15 at 7pm at the Hopkinton Fire Department on Main St.

Our guest speaker at this meeting will be Lee Ketelsen of MoveToAmend.org. Move To Amend is proposing that we amend the US Constitution to overturn Supreme Court decisions the Citizen's United case in order to reduce the influence of money in elections.

All are welcome to join us for the presentation and the subsequent discussion.

On May 10th, there will be a musical event and auction to fund the Saint John the Evangelist Youth Group’s mission trip to Gulfport, Mississippi to continue relief for Hurricane Katrina. The event, “Mississippi Blues”, will be hosted by the youth group and its leaders, and will take place at St. John’s Parish Center at 7:00 pm. Music will be provided by Steve Spector and friends.

Michael Tougias to Present The Coast Guard’s Most Daring Rescue & Leadership Lessons Learned

Author Michael Tougias will give a slide presentation on his new book The Finest Hours: The True Story of the U.S. Coast Guard’s Most Daring Sea Rescue. The Disney Corporation is making a movie based on the book. Tougias will also share the leadership lessons from this event that can help all of us in our decision-making. The program is part of Hopkinton’s “Desire to Inspire” community-wide initiative.

Players are encouraged to wear their team shirts to school!

Then cheer on the High School baseball team at 3:45 pm vs. Westwood on the Varsity Field (right behind Middle School).

Players in attendance will be able to:
Throw out a "first pitch" to our Varsity players
Participate in the 1st-3rd Dash just before the 3rd inning
Be a guest bat boy/girl in the dugout

Education Foundation Marathon Team Raises More Than $8,000

Of the 36,000 registered runners in the 118th Boston Marathon, two in particular stood out in the field - to friends, to family, but especially to all of us here at the Education Foundation.

Juliana Tordella of Hopkinton and David Welch of Berkeley, California comprised our first-ever Marathon charity team, registered as Ed Foundation runners in return for a commitment to fundraise for the organization.

That they did, each raising more than $4,000 to support the Foundation's innovation grants for Hopkinton educators. We spoke to them briefly by phone after the race...

Hopkinton Women's Club Meet the Candidates Night

The Hopkinton Women's Club is holding its annual Meet the Candidates Night on Wednesday, April 30th, 2014, at 7:00 PM in the HCAM studio. We encourage townspeople to attend and ask questions of those citizens running for office in the May 19th Town Election. This year home viewers will have the opportunity to pose questions to the candidates live, using a phone number that will be posted on the TV screen. Also, questions can be e-mailed ahead of time or that evening to live@hcam.tv.
