Applications for Boston Marathon Invitational Applications Due This Friday

In accordance with Section 2 of the Hopkinton Marathon Policy, the Board of Selectmen invites applications for the upcoming 2013 Boston Marathon in the following manner:

Seventeen (17) invitational applications will be distributed to qualified organizations through a lottery that will take place at a special Board of Selectmen meeting on Tuesday, November 20, 2013. In order to qualify for the lottery, an organization must fit one of three category descriptions outlined in the Town’s Marathon Policy, namely:

James N. Moriarty, 46

James N. Moriarty, 46, died peacefully surrounded by his family and friends Friday November 9, 2012 in Boston after complications from Leukemia. He was the husband of Monica (Feest) Moriarty, to whom he was married for 19 years. Born in Washington, DC, he was the son of Nicholas and Janet (Unis) Moriarty of Olney, MD.

He graduated from Good Counsel High School, Wheaton, MD and received a B.S. degree in accounting from St. Michael’s College, Winooski, VT. He was a partner in the accounting firm of McGladrey and formerly a partner at Arthur Andersen and Caturano & Company.

Hiller XC Teams Take TVL, Coaches Named "Coach of the Year!"

"We did it!" said Coach Jen Fairbanks. Both the boys and girls' teams won the TVL League. Both coaches won Coach of the Year for the League. Shelby Aarden won MVP of the League. And, today both teams advance to All-States. The girls have done it many times, but this is the first time that the boys' team has advanced to states as a team. "We have advanced as individuals, but not as a team." So, the Hillers will travel to Northfield Mt. in Northfield, MA next Saturday for All-States.

Evan Bishop Appointed as Interim High School Principal

In an email to parents this afternoon, Superintendent Dr. Steven Hiersche announced that Mr. Evan Bishop has been appointed Interim Principal at Hopkinton High School, replacing Alyson Geary who will be departing at the end of December. His interim term will be from January 1, 2013 to June 30, 2013. Mr. Bishop is currently an Assistant Principal at Hopkinton High and started in Hopkinton in 2005 as a guidance counselor before being promoted to assistant principal in 2009.

The School Committee thanks those who attended the recent focus group conducted by the New England School Development Council (NESDEC) as part of the search process for our next Superintendent of Schools.

The School Committee values the input of faculty, staff, parents and community in determining the attributes, experience and knowledge that our next Superintendent should possess. Opinion on the immediate tasks and priorities on which our next Superintendent should focus for the next few years, will be valued as well.

Hopkinton's Girl Scout Junior Troop 72975 met yesterday, 11/7/12 at the Hopkins Cafeteria with Community Leader, CherylAnn Lambert Walsh of Project Just Because (PJB), as part of their aMuse Journey.
Ms. Walsh spoke to the girls about her work with Project Just Because and raised their awareness of needs and opportunities to help in their community.
