Sept 21: Wake Up and Smell the Poetry Returns for 8th Season

September 21st is the kick-off date for the 8th season of Wake up and Smell the Poetry at the HCAM-TV Studio in Hopkinton. Welcome back to a new season of honoring the art of poetry, story and song and the opportunity to gather, contribute and be inspired by one another.

In just two weeks we look forward to getting started with our first program of the 8th season with guest features Gene McCarthy, Mwalim and Rick Drost.

Senator Spilka, Rep. Roy and Senator Warren Tour EMC’s Franklin Manufacturing Plant

State Senator Karen Spilka (D-Ashland), State Representative Jeff Roy (D-Franklin) and U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren toured the EMC Corporation manufacturing plant in Franklin this afternoon. The legislators met with executives to discuss EMC’s latest innovations in data storage and security, followed by a tour of the plant. Senator Warren then addressed employees in a town hall style discussion.

Chief of Police Job Posting Set for September 23

The Police Chief Search Committee, appointed by the Board of Selectmen, has been meeting to
move forward the recruitment and selection of a Police Chief, to replace Chief Flannery who
retired on June 30, 2013.

“This is a critical hire for the Community and the Committee will be thorough in conducting a very
careful, thoughtful, and deliberate process, to ensure the right candidate(s) for the Office of Chief
of Police is presented to the Board of Selectmen,” says Bob Levenson, Chair of the Search
Committee.

HHS Principal Mike Cournoyer on Leave of Absence

According to an article posted on the MetroWest Daily News website this morning, Hopkinton High School Principal Mike Cournoyer is on leave of absence effective Thursday, September 19. In answer to an email inquiry by HCAM News, School Committee Chairman Nancy Burdick confirmed that Cournoyer is on leave and that Assistant Principal Evan Bishop is "filling in for the time being."

Representative Dykema Calls for Increased Funding to Cities and Towns for Water Infrastructure

Representative Carolyn Dykema testified before the Joint Committee on the Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture yesterday calling for more funding to be allocated to cities and towns for water infrastructure investment. The hearing was focused on the Environment Bond Bill which is a five-year blueprint for investing in environmental assets across the Commonwealth.

Police Update: Bicyclist Deceased

On Wednesday September 18, 2013 at approximately 4:47 PM, Hopkinton Police responded to a serious motor vehicle accident on Hayden Rowe St., Route 85. The accident involved a motor vehicle and a teenage bicyclist. The bicyclist was transported to Milford Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.

The 13 year old victim has been identified as Shayne Desroches of Hopkinton.

No charges have been filed against the 16 year old female operator.
