The Hopkinton Education Foundation today announced, the “Run a Principal Out of Town” (RAPOOT) fundraising program. This program, the first of its kind, is a collaborative fundraising effort supporting education, community, health and athletics. The Hopkinton Education Foundation and the Hopkinton Public Schools are coming together with the support of the 26.2 Foundation to sponsor Hopkinton Middle School principal, Alan Keller, to run the 116th Boston Marathon on April 16, 2012.

At its March 1, 2012 meeting, the School Committee voted to create a Criteria Working Group (‘CWG’)
to draft potential criteria against which future Elementary School Building Project options will be
measured.

The CWG will be officially appointed by the School Committee as an ad-hoc committee. The CWG will be
led by the Assistant Superintendent and will report directly to the School Committee. No School
Committee members will participate in the work group. All interested citizens are encouraged to apply.

Hopkinton High School Drama Ensemble is getting ready to perform their winter offering, Much Ado about Nothing by William Shakespeare. The set is built, the costumes created, and the lines memorized.

The cast includes 40 students, featuring the work of Mehr Kaur as Beatrice, Kate Brush as Hero, Alex Kirshy as Benedick, Aiden Connelly as Claudio, and Liam Horsman as Don Pedro. The play is set at an Italian Villa in Tuscany in the mid 1980's.

According to an email from Superintendent Dr. Jonathan Landman’s office on February 27, the process of looking for a replacement for retiring Elmwood School Principal Ilene Silver is now underway.

A part of AT&T's "It Can Wait" campaign, Senator Karen Spilka will speak to students at Hopkinton High School about the dangers of texting while driving on Monday, February 27.

The campaign from AT&T is aimed at raising awareness about the risks of texting and driving, and as part of Monday's presentation to students, AT&T will show its 10-minute documentary which tells the true stories of young drivers whose lives were altered or even ended because of texting and driving.

On Monday, February 27th from 7:00-8:00pm Jean Vazza of Hopkinton Youth Services will facilitate a community-minded discussion on "Adolescence and Healthy Body Image" at the Hopkinton Public Library.

Topics of focus include concerns related to teen dieting, eating disorders, signs of depression, mood swings, drug/alcohol use, addiction and sleep problems. Discussion will emphasize ways of promoting healthy life practices in eating, sleeping, exercise and wellness in the teen years and participants will be encouraged to contribute their concerns and suggestions.
